Gilas on World Cup

This year's tournament marks the first time since 1978 that the Gilas Pilipinas is taking part in the high-profile international showcase. They hosted that edition of the event, but lost all eight games. Their best result was a bronze medal in 1954.

The Philippine national basketball team lost its debut in the FIBA Basketball World Cup, but not before giving Croatia a huge scare in overtime, 81-78 overtime on Saturday in Seville, Spain.

The Philippines had a chance to win the game in regulation after getting a stop with 20 seconds left. But Chan's well-challenged three-pointer failed to find the mark, resulting in overtime.
